Share Your Memories About Fisher Auditorium

As we get ready to open the Performing Arts Center that will connect Fisher Auditorium and Waller Hall, we want to ask you to share your stories about Fisher? Are you an alum, a student, a visitor? If you have fond memories of Fisher Auditorium sometime during its first 80 years. Perhaps you had that first date with your spouse there, or attended a spectacular show, or had a funny memory. Please go to our blog site and let us know. We would like to then include these stories (reserving editing rights) when we open the new center in September. Or, if you prefer, just email me.

Kaissa Performance Nov. 15

What types of sounds or words did you hear tonight that took you to other places, whether it be Africa, France, New York, New Orleans, or other locales? Or, maybe the performance took you to someplace more intangible: joy, wonder, frustration, conflict, resolution. We would really love to hear about your reactions.

Eugene Alcalay

Last night (Oct. 1), I picked up concert pianist, Eugene Alcalay, from the Pittsburgh Airport. On the way to Indiana, we had a lively conversation about a whole host of topics from music to politics to international exchange to driving techniques. Because of construction on the Parkway, we had more time to talk than we had planned; but it was a great opportunity to get to know Eugene a little better, having met him in 2001 when he visited IUP before. We also talked about his exciting London debut last summer, his upcoming CD release, and his return to London next year, this time also peforming at the famed St. Martin's in the Fields. For those of you who will be attending his performance on the main campus Thursday, Oct. 4, we are posing the following question in the program. What are your thoughts?

In the Liszt/Wagner work, Liszt takes themes from Wagner's opera, "Tristan and Isolde," to create this variation. Can you tell what characteristics could be considered "typically" Liszt versus "typically" Wagner? How does this work compare to the other works on the program by Liszt?

Pittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orch.

We would really like to know your thoughts on the September 20th concert. Here is the question we posed in the program but welcome any other thoughts you may have.

Are you familiar with any other works by the composers this evening: Stravinksy, Mozart, and Beethoven? If you are, how do they compare with other works by that composer—style, theme or motive, tempo? If you are not significantly familiar with other works, how does it compare to other music you enjoy, whatever the style? What are some of your other thoughts from this evening: clarity of sound, program variety, availability of world-class artists in the Indiana area?

What this blog is all about

Hello. My name is Hank Knerr and I serve as director of public events for the College of Fine Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. IUP is located about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh and is one of 14 state-owned universities throughout PA. We hope, by starting this blog, you will offer your insights into what we do, what we have done, and what we could do within the framework of event management. Comprised of a long list of visual and performing arts, we bring international touring performing artists, art exhibits, jazz, music theater, theater, dance, classical, and other events to the Indiana area.
